Your Supply Line Grew. Your Valve Doesn't Have to Be Replaced.

Plumbing changes over time. A well gets a bigger pump, a property gets re-piped for higher demand, a 3/4" line becomes a 1" line to keep up with a growing herd or a bigger tank. The instinct when that happens is to assume the valve needs to change too — pull it out, buy a new one sized for the new pipe, start over. On Topaz, Megaflow, and Vortex, that's rarely necessary. The tail is what determines inlet size, and the tail is replaceable.
Topaz and Megaflow: The Detach Tail
Both lines use Jobe's Detach system — the valve body separates from its mounted tail with a quarter turn, no tools required. That's normally talked about as a servicing feature, but it applies just as directly to upgrading. Detach tails come in 3/4", 1", and 1.25" sizes, in both long and short versions depending on how the valve mounts. If your supply line goes from 3/4" to 1", you're not buying a new Topaz or Megaflow — you're unscrewing the tail, screwing in the new size, and clicking the same valve body back into place.
Vortex: The Threaded Tail
Vortex works a little differently — the valve body threads directly onto the tail rather than using the quarter-turn Detach system, which trades the fastest possible service access for extra strength under continuous industrial duty. But the principle is identical: a replacement Vortex tail is available in 1.25", 1.5", and 2" sizes. A few more turns to swap than Detach, but no more of a full valve replacement than Topaz or Megaflow requires.
Why This Actually Matters
Sizing a valve to your current supply line makes sense — but plumbing isn't always static. A property expands, a well upgrade increases available flow, a herd grows past what the original line was sized for. Buying a new valve every time the pipe changes is real, avoidable cost, especially across an operation running several valves. Because inlet size lives in the tail rather than being baked into the whole valve, Jobe's lineup is built to track your system's growth instead of forcing you to replace hardware that's otherwise working fine.
What Doesn't Change
Swapping the tail changes inlet size, not the valve's core mechanism or flow ceiling — a Topaz tail swap doesn't turn it into a Megaflow, and a bigger Vortex tail doesn't raise it past 159 GPM. If your demand has actually outgrown the valve line itself, not just the pipe, that's a different conversation — compare the full lineup to see where your system actually falls. But for the common case — supply line grew, valve is otherwise fine — a new tail is the fix, not a new valve.
