Choosing the Right Float Valve for a Car Wash Bay

A car wash reclaim pit or rinse tank isn't a livestock trough, and picking a valve the same way — by inlet size alone — is how wash bays end up with the sticking, undersized, or short-lived valves that turn into a service call every few months. Wash bays have their own set of demands: high-volume recirculation, hot water, and near-constant duty cycles that most float valve applications never see. Getting the valve right up front means matching three things — flow, heat, and duty cycle — rather than just grabbing whatever's rated for the pipe size.

Start With Flow, Not Just Pipe Size

Reclaim systems and high-volume rinse tanks move a lot more water than a standard trough or tank fill ever will. A valve rated for 4–7 GPM — fine for a small tank — will be a bottleneck and a point of premature wear in a system designed to move dozens of gallons per minute. Then Check the Water Temperature

Don't Skip the Service Kit
